Top 10 Collections From New York Fashion Week Spring 2021

NYFW Tom Ford Spring 2021

Last week was the first-ever ‘virtual’ New York Fashion Week. With so many amazing designers, here are our staff’s pick for the top 10 collections for #NYFW Spring 2021.

#10 is Maisie Schloss who is no stranger to the fashion industry, previously the head designer of Yeezy. She has a slew of celebrity clients including Kim Kardashian West, and is now part of Kanye West fashion incubator fund. NYFW Spring 2021 collection this season introduces new fabrics including silk and woven metallics as well as looser fitting silhouettes with cut-outs. Her classic body-con silhouettes were on display as well in more muted tones.

Our #9 pick at NYFW Spring 2021 was Ulla Johnson who created a magical boho dream-styled collection. Staying true to her brand’s design aesthetic, she showed beautiful frocks that you can wear in the city or the country. This collection’s inspiration came from her previous travels to Japan where she fell in love with the lightness and use of fabrics and silhouettes.

Michelle Duncan’s latest collection is a hopeful look at the future, working in the office as opposed to at home. She focused on the details above the waist just in case… Keep you inner Goth Gal alive even at your corporate gig.

At #7 are designers Kristopher Brock and Laura Vassar. They introduced at NYFW Spring 2021 a smaller, more concise collection while staying close to their brands DNA. Understated elegance redefined!

Our #6 pick Private Policy “Searching for Aphrodite” addresses self-love and inclusivity. Co-designers Haoran Li and Siying Qu, muses this season were amputee model and singer Marsha Elle and trans model and activist Dominique Castelano. Their message goes deeper than just a pretty dress, it is about redefining beauty and loving yourself.

At #5 is Anna Sui’s latest collection. Her aesthetic stayed true to her roots, the ultimate boho chic gal. Serene colors, dusty rose, jade and ivory gave the nostalgia and warmth of home. Also, the detailing of each garment is breathtaking from her patchwork, quilting, embroidery to ribbons. Simply beautiful.

#4 on our list is Olivia Cheng who describes her floral dress collection Dauphinette as “the happiest brand on earth.” Her beliefs are at the core of her brand. She is continuing to lower her carbon imprint using recycled materials and vintage pieces redone. She creates sustainably chic cool looks. We are a big fan!

Our pick for #3 is Jason Wu. Known for famously dressing Michelle Obama at the first and second inauguration of American President Barack Obama. This year’s collection from him was full of bright colors that were effortlessly chic. In collaboration with the Gay Men’s Health Crisis organization called Distance Yourself From Hate, Wu introduced his new designer face masks. All profits are going toward providing food and PPE to underprivileged communities around the country.

#2 Tom Ford

Coming in at #2 is Tom Ford. His collection was inspired by the 70’s model Pat Cleveland and her iconic smile. His clothes are as fabulous as ever, using the most luxurious fabrics, vibrant colors, and wearable silhouettes. Lets us all smile today and everyday.

#1 Rodarte

And coming in at #1, our top pick from this year’s New York Fashion Week was Rodarte’s signature brand brought you by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. They presented their dreamy collection which now includes loungewear (Yay!). This is a bold and welcome departure from their previous collections. We absolutely fell in love with the floral headdresses and colorful palette.
